vs Humboldt

The SCUTS were handed their first league loss of the season against Humboldt State, 45-24 at Bellomy Field.

Humboldt was the first team to put up points with a fast break on the weak side. Humboldt continued to find ways to break through the SCUTS defense and scored two additional tries before junior forward Anders Loven-Holt broke through to score the first try of the day, with freshman scrumhalf Teddy Mefford kicking for points.  A few moments later, the SCUTS were able to capitalize on a penalty and allow Mefford to make a penalty kick to put the SCUTS within 7 points, 17-10.  Humboldt responded to the SCUTS narrow gap by putting up two additional trys to lead the game 31-10.

Junior forward Anthony Pastore added some momentum for the SCUTS with his try (Mefford kicking for points) to narrow Humboldt’s lead, 31-17.  But once again, Humboldt responded with a try to increase the points gap.  Sophomore fullback Michael Dessel was able to make one last push for the SCUTS with his try (Mefford kicking for points) but Humboldt prevailed with one final try of their own to end the game with a final score of 45-24.
