vs Diablo Gaels

January 17th, 2009

The SCUTS added another W after a thrilling win against the Diablo Valley Gaels, 44-31.  Coming off of last week’s win against UC Santa Cruz, the SCUTS were ready for their second home game of the season.

Senior wing Patrick Haggerty scored his first of three trys for the game in the early minutes of the game to put the SCUTS up by 5. A few minutes later, freshman Daniel Iritani passed the ball to Haggerty for the second try of the game, with Iritani kicking for points.  Haggerty scored his third try of the game to put the SCUTS in the lead 17 to 0.  After Haggerty’s third try of the game, Diablo responded with two trys to close the gap.  Iritani set up another great assist to sophomore fullback Michael Dessel for the try, and a converted kick for points.  Diablo broke through the defense to score their last try and kick for the first half, but not without the SCUTS responding with a try from freshman wing Alex Arezzini and a converted kick to end the half with a score of 31-19.

In the second half, Diablo committed a penalty that allowed Iritani to add an additional 3 points to the scoreboard.  Junior lock Anthony Pastore ran through the Diablo defense to pass the ball to Arezzini to bring in the try.  Arezzini scored one last try to put the Gaels away for good with an assist from Dessel.  Although Diablo made a late effort and scored two more trys, the game ended with another SCUTS win 44-31.
