Santa Cruz Slugfest Tournament - Cal Poly
After only a few weeks of practicing, the SCUTS had a great showing at the Slugfest
Tournament hosted by UC Santa Cruz. They played a total of four games on a pitch overlooking beautiful Santa Cruz.
The first opponent for the SCUTS was Chico State’s 2nds team. Despite a very strong showing from both the forwards and the backs and a penalty kick by senior Sean Falvey, the boys lost 3-12. However in their next game against Cal Poly SLO’s 2nds, the boys had much more luck. Although the game was scoreless for the first half, freshman Michael Chacon-Teran and sophomore Sean Carusi each scored a try to win the game 10-5 in the second half. The SCUTS continued their winning streak against UC Davis’ 2nds with sophomore Patrick Haggerty scoring a try in the first 2 minutes of the game, leading the team to a 7-5 win. In the final match of the tournament against the UC Santa Cruz Slugs, the boys put out a valiant effort, including a try scored by sophomore Tyler Petersen, but in the end the Slugs won the game 24-5.
