Chris Kron

On a recruiting trip to Northern California fifteen years ago, Arizona rugby head coach Dave Sitton found a player who proceeded to change the University of Arizona rugby program forever. The player was Chris Kron, and he would eventually become a two time Collegiate All-American and a member of the United States National Team.
Chris Kron started playing rugby in high school and had an immediate impact on his University of Arizona team in his freshman year playing wing and fullback. In Chris’s fifth season he was selected to the National team, where he represented the United States in eight international countries. He was also a member of the 2001 US National Sevens team that made the Semifinal match against Australia in the New Zealand International Sevens Tournament. This was the best result that any Eagle team has ever accomplished. The team was victorious against Fiji, England, and Canada in the beginning stages of the tournament.
In 2000, Chris was selected from 35,000 students as the University of Arizona’s “Sportsman of the Year” for accomplishments as an athlete, a leader, and a student. Additional awards include the Career Achievement Award, in which only two have ever been awarded, the William M. Clements Academic Award, and the Rugby Leadership Award. Chris was Captain for the University of Arizona rugby team for 3 years.
In May 2003-August 2004, Chris was the assistant coach for the Stanford Rugby Men’s Club. He was the head coach of the Sky Hawk All-Stars in 2005 and he is currently the head coach of the Stanford Seahawks Seven’s program. The team placed fifth in the 2001 National Tournament. The Santa Clara Men’s Rugby Club is certainly fortunate to have a dedicated individual who has an extensive rugby background and a passion for the game as its director.
