Father Coz Banquet

Santa Clara University Men’s Rugby held its annual fundraiser to celebrate last year’s 8-1 DII success and kick off the support of the program for this season. The fundraiser, held in honor of Father Richard A. Coz, a Jesuit priest who took great pride in supporting the program for 40 years and acted as the team’s unofficial photographer, was greatly attended.

Santa Clara coach and 7’s Eagle, Chris Kron, was joined by former Santa Clara Coach and Eagle, Mickey Ording, along with a host of former players from the 1960’s, through to 2008, to honor Fr. Coz and the Santa Clara rugby program.   The evenings high lights included a heartfelt speech by Ording who was a principal in the program’s naming – Santa Clara University Touring Side (SCUTS) along with a photographic tribute to Fr. Coz’s work of capturing visions of SCUTS rugby for the past 40 years.

The 2008 recipient of the Fr. Coz Award – given to the player most exemplifying the love for rugby exhibited by Fr. Coz, was senior prop Andrew Lennig.  The event raised over $6,000 in this inaugural fundraiser that is sure to become a success through the years.
