Santa Clara Men’s Rugby

Santa Clara University Men’s Rugby held its annual fundraiser to celebrate the SCUTS and kick off the support of the program for this season. The fundraiser, held in honor of Father Richard A. Coz, a Jesuit priest who took great pride in supporting the program for 40 years and acted as the team’s unofficial photographer, was greatly attended.

Santa Clara coach and 7’s Eagle, Chris Kron, was joined by former Santa Clara Coach and over 80 former players from the 1960’s, through to 2009, to honor Fr. Coz and the Santa Clara rugby program.   The evenings highlights were a photographic tribute to Fr. Coz’s work of capturing visions of SCUTS rugby for the past 40 years as well as a wonderful auction

The 2009 recipient of the Fr. Coz Award – given to the player most exemplifying the love for rugby exhibited by Fr. Coz, was senior scrumhalf JP Goethals.  The event raised over $12,000 in its second year that is sure to become a success through the years.
